Get Involved

MEDICANES is building a structured community of users and stakeholders to ensure that the tools and products developed meet real operational and scientific needs. We welcome contributions from institutions and individuals working in meteorology, climate science, civil protection, and disaster risk management across the Mediterranean region and beyond.

Who We Are Looking For

Our engagement effort targets three main groups:

  • Institutional meteorological users — national weather services, regional forecasting centres, and early warning systems operating in the Mediterranean basin
  • Civil protection and risk management agencies — organisations involved in disaster preparedness, emergency response, and climate adaptation planning at national or European level
  • Research groups and modelling teams — scientists working on Mediterranean cyclones, impact-based forecasting, Earth Observation, or socioeconomic risk assessment who wish to exchange methods and datasets
  • What We Offer

Phase 2 is developing a set of tools and products that will be made available to the community:

  • EO-based medicane monitoring and satellite intensity estimation products
  • Multi-hazard footprint maps (wind, precipitation, storm surge, coastal flooding) for Mediterranean cyclone events
  • The Medicane Impact Viewer (MIV) — an interactive geospatial platform providing exposure indicators and risk metrics for selected historical events (in development)
  • Digital Twin outputs and physically consistent synthetic medicane scenarios for risk assessment and forecasting research
  • Phase 2 User Workshop

The project is planning a dedicated user workshop, co-organised with ESA support, structured in three steps: identification of the user community among European and Mediterranean institutional stakeholders; preparation and distribution of targeted presentation material; and organisation of the workshop event to present services, collect user feedback, and produce a report of community recommendations for future operational applications.

For any enquiry — early input on user needs, scientific collaboration, or data access — please contact us at medicanes-info AT isac.cnr.it. For the workshop, use subject line "Phase 2 User Community". See also the Resources page for ongoing synergies and network links.
